Mikaela Niemasz-Cavanagh

IRB Administrator
MikaelaMikaela Niemasz-Cavanagh is an IRB Administrator for the Committee on the Use of Human Subjects (CUHS). She came to the Boston area from Vermont to complete her undergraduate degree. Mikaela volunteered in various labs as a research assistant throughout high school and college and interned at CUHS while obtaining her undergraduate degree. After graduating with her B.A. in health and counseling psychology from Emmanuel College in Boston, Mikaela re-located to work as a research coordinator in a mixed social psychology and education lab at Stanford University. Having missed the IRB world, Mikaela returned to Boston in order to pursue her career as an IRB reviewer at Boston University before returning to Harvard in 2019.

Jonathan M. Girard

Jonathan Girard

Jonathan M. Girard serves as Manager of the Harvard University Area IRB. He manages the IRB Administrator staff and internal training operations. He also maintains the portfolio from researchers in the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Jonathan spearheads external training and outreach efforts, providing in-class trainings for students and staff across all schools at the university. In this role, he leads an Undergraduate Research Training Program (URTP) to assist undergraduate researchers in the ethical conduct of thesis and course projects.

Prior to joining the Harvard University Area IRB in 2015, Jonathan worked at Boston Children’s Hospital, serving concurrently as a Research Coordinator within the Neuropsychology Program and as Psychometrician within the Clinical Research Center’s Behavior Core. Jonathan graduated from Boston University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
