#  IRB-led Training Sessions 

 



The Harvard University Area (HUA) Institutional Review Board (IRB) offers IRB-led training sessions as a resource to members of the HUA research community. You do not need to complete IRB 101 training to sign up for IRB 102 training and vice-versa.  
  
***Note:** Participation in these voluntary training sessions does not fulfill the requirement for CITI ethics training. More information on ethics training can be found on the* [*Required Ethics Training Overview page.*](https://cuhs.harvard.edu/required-ethics-training) *If you are a Harvard College student, these sessions will not count towards Undergraduate Research Training Program (URTP) credit.  ### IRB 101 - Fundamentals and When to Submit to the IRB

Are you interested in learning about human subjects research and when you should submit to the HUA IRB? The Harvard University Area (HUA) Institutional Review board (IRB) offers an "IRB 101" session. This is an introductory hour-long session that covers the fundamentals of human subjects research protection, ethical guidelines (Belmont Report), and considerations for when IRB review is required. This session is offered monthly via Zoom to members of the HUA research community.

Follow the link below to the Harvard Training Portal to sign up for a session. Sign up will close one business day before the session and a Zoom link will be sent by email to all confirmed attendees at that time.

 ### IRB 102 - How to Submit to the IRB

Are you interested in learning about how to submit to the HUA IRB? The Harvard University Area (HUA) Institutional Review Board (IRB) offers an “IRB 102” session. This is an introductory hour-long session that provides a brief refresher on key definitions (such as the definition of research and how a human subject is defined) from the regulations and an overview of how to submit to the HUA IRB, following the steps outlined in our [IRB Lifecycle Guide](https://cuhs.harvard.edu/irb-lifecycle-guide). This session is offered monthly via Zoom to members of the HUA research community.

 ### Group Training Request

The HUA IRB also provides group training sessions on request. Request group training from the IRB by completing this [Training Request Form](https://harvard.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3zc8OyNTmO4gjnU)! If the timing of the sessions offered via the Harvard Training Portal does not work for you, you can request a session from the HUA IRB using the training request form with your preferred times. These sessions can take place in person or virtually, and can be tailored in both length and content to fit your group’s specific needs.
