In this role, Katie provides leadership and oversight for review operations of the Harvard University Area (HUA) IRB, including the managing and supervision of IRB review staff. In addition, she provides outreach to the HUA research community, training opportunities, assists with IRB initiatives, and works in partnership with those who submit their studies to the HUA IRB to facilitate the ethical conduct of research with human subjects. Katie joined the Harvard University Area IRB in October 2023 as an IRB Administrator and became the Assistant Director in August 2024. Prior to Harvard, Katie has worked in roles that provided both research and IRB experience. Of particular note, she has worked in human subjects research as a Data Manager and Project Manager on NIH funded research for a longitudinal cohort. She has also worked at the Boston University Medical Campus/Boston Medical Center IRB reviewing both FDA regulated and social behavioral, educational, and international research. Katie has a wide-ranging educational background, with her undergraduate degrees being in English and Theology and MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
